Richmond Flying Squirrels at Hartford Yard Goats
HARTFORD, Conn. (Interstat) — The Eastern League’s hottest team will look to continue its surge in soggy conditions Thursday when the Richmond Flying Squirrels visit the Hartford Yard Goats at Dunkin’ Park.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. EDT under a forecast of 73-degree temperatures and rain.
The Flying Squirrels (9-1) have won nine straight games, including an 11-7 victory over Hartford on Tuesday. Richmond’s lone loss came in its season opener at Erie on April 3.
They will send left-hander Joe Whitman (1-0) to the mound. Hartford (4-6) will counter with right-hander Konner Eaton (1-0).
A key figure in Richmond’s streak is outfielder Scott Bandura. He drove in five runs on three hits in Tuesday’s win, part of a stretch where he has 10 hits in his last seven games. For the series, Bandura is 4 for 9 with five RBIs.
The Yard Goats, who snapped a five-game skid with a 10-8 win on Wednesday, will rely on catcher Bryant Betancourt for power. He homered and drove in three runs in Tuesday’s loss and has three home runs in his last seven games.
According to Interstat, Richmond is projected with a 51.6% probability to win. The service’s game simulator predicts an 8-3 victory for the Flying Squirrels.
After Thursday, the series continues through Sunday before both teams embark on new series next Tuesday. Richmond will host Somerset, while Hartford travels to Portland.
