Bradenton Marauders at Tampa Tarpons
BRADENTON, Fla. (Interstat) — Two struggling Florida State League clubs seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the Bradenton Marauders visit the Tampa Tarpons at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
The teams played to a 7-7 tie on Tuesday, a result that did little to clarify the early-season standings. Bradenton (2-7) enters with the league’s worst record, while Tampa (3-6) is just one game ahead in the win column.
A player to watch for the Marauders is reliever Treyson Peters, who has provided stability out of the bullpen. In his last appearance on April 12, Peters threw two scoreless innings with two strikeouts in a 6-0 loss to Palm Beach. Over his last two outings, he has allowed just one earned run in 4 1/3 innings.
The Tarpons will counter with right-hander Danny Flatt as a key figure. Flatt delivered a quality start his last time out, allowing one run on three hits over six innings in a 1-0 loss to Clearwater on April 12. His season, however, has been inconsistent, as evidenced by a prior outing on April 5 where he surrendered four runs in 4 2/3 innings.
Both teams are mired in offensive slumps. The Marauders have been shut out in two of their last three games, including a 6-0 defeat to Palm Beach on Sunday. The Tarpons have scored one run or fewer in three of their last four contests, with Sunday’s 1-0 loss in Clearwater being a recent example.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Wednesday’s contest projects to be another low-scoring affair, with a predicted final of Tampa 3, Bradenton 2.
This game is the second of a five-game series between the division rivals. The series continues through Sunday before both clubs hit the road for their next six-game sets.
