FRISCO, Texas (Interstat) — Two teams with identical records and a tightly contested series will meet for a fifth straight day Sunday when the Midland RockHounds face the Frisco RoughRiders at Riders Field.
First pitch is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, though the forecast calls for rain and a temperature of 79 degrees.
Both clubs enter at 5-2. The series is tied 2-2, with three of the games decided by one run, including Frisco’s 4-3 victory on Friday.
Midland will send right-hander David Davalillo (0-0) to the mound for his first start of the season. He will be opposed by a Frisco pitching staff that has not yet announced a starter for the series finale.
A player to watch for Midland is reliever Corey Avant, who was sharp in Friday’s loss, allowing one earned run over 4 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts. Over his last two appearances, he has 14 strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings.
For Frisco, reliever Leandro Lopez has been dominant, tossing 10 1/3 scoreless innings across two outings. He earned the win Friday with 5 2/3 shutout frames against Midland.
In Friday’s game, Midland’s Jared Dickey drove in two runs in the loss. Frisco’ bullpen trio of Lopez, Bryan Magdaleno and Wilian Bormie combined for 8 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a high-scoring affair, predicting a 7-6 Midland victory. However, the service’s ELO rating system gives Frisco a 54.6% probability to win.
Following Sunday’s game, Midland returns home to begin a six-game set with the San Antonio Missions on Tuesday. Frisco hits the road for a six-game series against the Amarillo Sod Poodles, also starting Tuesday.
