Charleston RiverDogs at Fayetteville Woodpeckers

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (Interstat) — The surging Charleston RiverDogs will look to extend their dominance over the struggling Fayetteville Woodpeckers when the teams meet again Saturday at Jim Perry Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 64 degrees under clear skies in Lillington.

Charleston (4-3) has won four straight, all against Fayetteville (1-6) this week, including an 8-2 victory Friday night. The RiverDogs have outscored the Woodpeckers 34-16 in the series.

A player to watch for Charleston is right-hander Ethan Storm, who delivered five strong innings in Friday’s win, allowing one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts. Over his last two starts, he has 12 strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings.

Fayetteville will hope for a spark from reliever Charlie Weber, who was a bright spot in Friday’s loss. Weber tossed three scoreless innings of one-hit ball, striking out five. His season, however, has been uneven, highlighted by a rough outing April 4 where he allowed three earned runs while recording just two outs.

The RiverDogs’ offense has been potent during the streak. In Friday’s win, designated hitter Taitn Gray went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-1 Charleston victory, with its ELO rating system giving the RiverDogs a 53.2% probability to win.

After Saturday, the series concludes Sunday before both teams embark on new series Tuesday. Charleston returns home to face the Columbia Fireflies, while Fayetteville hits the road to take on the Augusta GreenJackets.
