Tampa Tarpons at Clearwater Threshers
CLEARWATER, Fla. (Interstat) — The Tampa Tarpons and Clearwater Threshers, locked in a tight early-season series, meet again Saturday at Spectrum Field with both clubs looking to break a 3-4 season record.
The visiting Tarpons have taken three of the first four games in this six-game set, including a 9-0 rout Friday night powered by Logan Maxwell’s two home runs and five RBIs. Maxwell is 6 for 18 with three homers and seven RBIs over his last five games.
Tampa will send left-hander Henry Lalane (0-0) to the mound. Clearwater counters with right-hander Zuher Yousuf (0-0). Both pitchers are making their first decisions of the young season.
The Threshers will look to rebound quickly from Friday’s shutout loss. Reliever Orlando Gonzalez provided a bright spot in that game, tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
Despite Tampa’s recent edge, projections are split. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a 5-2 Tarpons victory, while its ELO system gives Clearwater a slight 54.2% probability to win.
First pitch is scheduled for 79 degrees under cloudy skies.
