Omaha Storm Chasers at Iowa Cubs

OMAHA, Neb. (Interstat) — The Omaha Storm Chasers and Iowa Cubs continue their early-season series Friday at Principal Park in Des Moines, with first pitch scheduled for 6:38 p.m. CDT under forecasted rainy skies and a temperature of 46 degrees.

The series is tied 1-1 after Iowa’s 12-4 win Wednesday and Omaha’s 8-1 victory Tuesday. A Thursday matchup was postponed.

Both teams will send undefeated right-handers to the mound. Omaha’s Mitch Spence (1-0) will face Iowa’s Will Sanders (1-0). Spence looks to help the Storm Chasers (5-5) rebound from Wednesday’s loss, while Sanders aims to keep the Cubs (6-4) above .500.

A player to watch for Omaha is reliever Jose Cuas, who was a bright spot in Wednesday’s defeat, striking out five over 2 2/3 hitless innings. For Iowa, catcher Eric Yang is coming off a powerful performance, going 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs in that same game.

The Cubs have won four of their last five games, averaging 9.2 runs per contest during that stretch. The Storm Chasers have been inconsistent, alternating wins and losses over their past six games.

According to Interstat, the Cubs are projected favorites with a 58.8% probability to win. The game simulator predicts a 7-4 Iowa victory.

Following Friday’s game, the series continues through Sunday before both teams embark on new series next week.
