Tampa Tarpons at Clearwater Threshers

CLEARWATER, Fla. (Interstat) — The Tampa Tarpons will look to build on their first win of the season and even their series with the Clearwater Threshers when the in-state rivals meet again Friday at Spectrum Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. under cloudy skies with a temperature around 74 degrees.

The Tarpons (1-4) snapped a four-game skid with a 3-2 victory over the Threshers (3-2) on Wednesday, marking their second straight one-run game in the series. Clearwater took the opener 4-1 on Tuesday.

Tampa will send right-hander Justin West (0-1) to the mound. He will be opposed by Clearwater right-hander Cody Bowker (0-1). Both pitchers are seeking their first win of the young season.

A key player to watch for Tampa is right-hander Allen Facundo, who delivered a dominant performance in relief to earn Wednesday’s win. Facundo tossed 5 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit and one earned run while striking out eight. His effort stabilized a game started by Tanner Gresham, who is a player to watch for Clearwater. Gresham took the loss Wednesday despite a strong start, going three innings with one hit, one earned run and five strikeouts.

The Tarpons’ bullpen, featuring Jose Ledesma and Josh Tiedemann, combined for two scoreless innings to secure Wednesday’s win. Clearwater’s Peyton Havard and Tyler Bowen provided solid relief in the defeat.

Despite their losing record, the Tarpons have shown recent life after being outscored 38-17 in a season-opening three-game sweep by Lakeland. The Threshers, coming off a series win at Fort Myers, have seen all five of their games decided by three runs or fewer.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projection favors Tampa in another high-scoring affair, with a predicted final of Tarpons 6, Threshers 4.

The six-game series between the clubs continues through Sunday.
