Omaha Storm Chasers at Iowa Cubs
OMAHA, Neb. (Interstat) — The Omaha Storm Chasers and Iowa Cubs continue their series at Principal Park on Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for the afternoon.
The game will be played under chilly, cloudy skies with a temperature around 39 degrees.
Omaha (4-4) evened the series with a 2-1 victory on Tuesday. Iowa (5-3) looks to reclaim momentum at home after seeing a five-game winning streak snapped.
The Storm Chasers will send right-hander Ethan Bosacker (0-0) to the mound. Iowa is expected to counter with right-hander Vince Velasquez, a key player to watch. Velasquez is coming off a strong outing on April 5 in a 6-2 win at Louisville, where he allowed two hits and one earned run over five innings with seven strikeouts. In his prior start on March 31, also against Louisville, he took the loss after giving up three earned runs in three innings.
A player to watch for Omaha is pitcher Ryan Ramsey, who earned the win in relief on April 5 against Buffalo. He tossed five innings, allowing one earned run on five hits. He took the loss in his March 31 start against the Bisons, surrendering three earned runs in three innings.
The teams’ bullpens could be decisive. Omaha relievers Eric Cerantola and Mason Black combined for two scoreless innings to secure Sunday’s 4-3 win over Buffalo. Iowa’s Tyler Santana provided three scoreless innings of relief in Sunday’s 6-2 win at Louisville.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Iowa 6, Omaha 5.
Following Wednesday’s contest, the series continues through Sunday in Des Moines.
