Omaha Storm Chasers at Iowa Cubs
OMAHA, Neb. (Interstat) — The Omaha Storm Chasers and Iowa Cubs are set to open a six-game series at Principal Park on Tuesday, with inclement weather and two pitchers looking to build on recent strong outings headlining the preview.
First pitch in Des Moines is scheduled for 6:38 p.m. CDT under a forecast of 43-degree temperatures and rain.
The Storm Chasers (4-4) arrive after splitting a six-game set with Buffalo, including a 4-3 win Sunday. Right-hander Ryan Bergert (0-0, 0.00 ERA) is slated to make his first start of the season for Omaha.
Iowa (5-3) counters with veteran right-hander Vince Velasquez, who is also a player to watch. Velasquez (1-1, 4.50 ERA) is coming off a dominant performance, allowing two hits and one earned run with seven strikeouts over five innings in a 6-2 win at Louisville on Sunday.
A key player to watch for Omaha is pitcher Ryan Ramsey, who earned the win in Sunday’s victory by tossing five innings of one-run ball. Over his last two appearances, he has a 3.86 ERA with five strikeouts in eight innings.
The Cubs have won four of their last five games, powered by an offense that has averaged 7.4 runs during that stretch. In Sunday’s win, third baseman James Triantos went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
According to Interstat, the Cubs are projected favorites with a 59.4% probability to win. The organization’s game simulator predicts a 6-5 victory for Iowa.
Following Tuesday’s opener, the series continues through Sunday. Omaha then returns home to face Indianapolis, while Iowa embarks on a road trip to Columbus.
