Midland RockHounds at Frisco RoughRiders

FRISCO, Texas (Interstat) — Two of the Texas League’s early unbeaten teams clash Tuesday when the Midland RockHounds visit the Frisco RoughRiders at Riders Field.

Both clubs enter the series opener with perfect 3-0 records. Midland swept a three-game set from the Arkansas Travelers, while Frisco did the same on the road against the Corpus Christi Hooks.

The RockHounds will send right-hander Josh Trentadue (0-0) to the mound for the 7:05 p.m. CDT start. He will face a Frisco lineup that has averaged over five runs per game in its opening series.

A player to watch for Midland is reliever JJ Goss, who was dominant in his season debut. On April 4 against Arkansas, Goss tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out three in a 4-2 victory.

Frisco counters with its own standout arm in David Davalillo. The right-hander fired 5 1/3 shutout innings, striking out seven and allowing four hits, in a 1-0 win over Corpus Christi on April 4. He is expected to be available out of the bullpen.

Midland’s early success has been built on strong pitching, holding opponents to just seven total runs in three games. Frisco’s staff has been equally impressive, surrendering only three runs total in its sweep.

The weather forecast calls for cloudy skies and a game-time temperature of 67 degrees.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, this high-powered matchup projects to be a close one, with a predicted final score of Frisco 7, Midland 6.

This game begins a five-game series between the division rivals. Following this set, Midland returns home to host the San Antonio Missions for six games beginning April 14. Frisco will hit the road for a six-game series against the Amarillo Sod Poodles starting April 14.
