Charleston RiverDogs at Fayetteville Woodpeckers

Preview: RiverDogs, Woodpeckers Open Series in Lillington

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (Interstat) — The Charleston RiverDogs look to notch their first win of the young season when they visit the Fayetteville Woodpeckers on Tuesday night at Jim Perry Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 62 degrees.

Charleston (0-3) arrives seeking to reverse early struggles after being swept in a three-game home set by the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. The RiverDogs dropped the series finale 4-3 on Saturday despite strong relief pitching. Trey Pooser, a player to watch for Charleston, was effective in that loss, throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

Fayetteville (1-2) salvaged one game in its opening series against the Wilson Warbirds, a 6-5 win on Saturday, but fell 9-4 on Sunday. Outfielder Juan Sierra provides power for the Woodpeckers, launching a two-run homer in Sunday’s defeat.

The RiverDogs’ offense has been muted, scoring just seven total runs through three games. Conversely, Fayetteville’s pitching staff looks to build consistency after allowing nine runs in the series finale.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Fayetteville 3, Charleston 1.

The game opens a six-game series between the teams in Lillington, with contests scheduled through Sunday.
