Memphis Redbirds at Charlotte Knights
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Interstat) — The hottest team in the league meets a club searching for consistency Tuesday when the Memphis Redbirds open a six-game series against the Charlotte Knights at Truist Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:04 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a temperature near 61 degrees.
The Redbirds (7-1) arrive riding a wave of early-season success, having won seven of their first eight games. They are coming off a 7-3, seven-inning victory over Norfolk on Sunday, part of a dominant 5-1 series win against the Tides. Bligh Madris drove in two runs in that contest, but the bullpen has been a cornerstone. Reliever Skylar Hales has been particularly sharp, posting three straight scoreless appearances. In his last outing Sunday, he went 2 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and striking out three.
Conversely, the Knights (3-4) look to stabilize after dropping four of their last five games, including a 7-5 loss at Nashville on Sunday. Starter Tanner McDougal provided a bright spot in that defeat, yielding just one earned run on two hits over five innings while striking out three. Catcher Drew Romo added two RBIs. McDougal has been effective in two starts this season, posting a 2.25 ERA with 11 strikeouts in nine innings.
The series marks the start of an extended homestand for Charlotte, while Memphis embarks on a 12-game road trip. According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Redbirds are projected to extend their strong start with an 8-5 victory Tuesday night.
Following this contest, the teams will meet again Wednesday through Sunday to complete the series. Charlotte will then hit the road for a series at Jacksonville beginning April 14, while Memphis returns home to host Gwinnett starting April 14.
