Tampa Tarpons at Clearwater Threshers
CLEARWATER, Fla. (Interstat) — The struggling Tampa Tarpons seek their first win of the season Tuesday when they visit the Clearwater Threshers in a Florida State League matchup at Spectrum Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. under a forecast of 77-degree temperatures and rain.
The Tarpons (0-3) are reeling after being swept in a three-game series by Lakeland, surrendering 38 total runs. They will look to right-hander Danny Flatt to stop the slide. Flatt took the loss in his last start Sunday, allowing four earned runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings, though he did strike out seven.
Offensively, Tampa will hope for more production from center fielder Willy Montero, who hit a home run in the series finale against Lakeland.
The Threshers (2-1), coming off a series win at Fort Myers, hold the early divisional advantage. A key performer out of the bullpen has been MT Morrissey, who threw 2 2/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts in Saturday’s 7-5 victory. Second baseman Tyler Pettorini drove in three runs in that win.
Despite Tampa’s rough start, Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 Tarpons victory. However, the same outlet’s ELO rating system gives Clearwater a 55.9% probability to win the contest.
This game begins a six-game series between the clubs at Spectrum Field. The series continues through Sunday.
