Rain Threatens Series Finale Between Struggling Indians, Hot Clippers

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Interstat) — The Columbus Clippers look to continue their dominant start and extend the Indianapolis Indians’ early-season woes when the International League teams conclude a five-game series Sunday afternoon at Huntington Park.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. EDT, though the forecast calls for rain and a temperature of 79 degrees.

The Clippers (6-1) have won four of the first five meetings this series, including a 7-5 victory Saturday. Columbus catcher Cooper Ingle has been a key catalyst, hitting .500 (4 for 8) with a home run and four RBIs in the series. In Saturday’s win, he went 2 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs.

Conversely, the Indians (1-6) have lost six of their first seven games overall. A bright spot has been reliever Mike Clevinger, who has not allowed an earned run in 6 2/3 innings across three appearances this season. He pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts in Saturday’s loss.

The pitching matchup features Indianapolis left-hander Logan Allen (1-0), who will oppose a Columbus starter to be announced. Allen is the only Indians pitcher with a win this season.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Clippers are projected to win 7-4.

Following the game, Indianapolis returns home to host the Louisville Bats for a six-game series starting Tuesday. Columbus begins a six-game road trip at Worcester on Tuesday.
