LAKELAND AT TAMPA PREVIEW

TAMPA, Fla. (Interstat) — The Lakeland Flying Tigers will look to build on a decisive opening-night victory when they visit the Tampa Tarpons for the second game of their series at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Saturday.

Both teams enter the contest with 0-0 records to start the 2026 campaign. Lakeland launched its season with a 12-5 road win over Tampa on Friday night, establishing early momentum in the Florida State League rivalry.

The Flying Tigers’ offense carried over its potency from the final game of the 2025 season, a 9-2 exhibition win over the Daytona Tortugas on Sept. 16. Tampa’s most recent result before Friday was a 6-2 exhibition victory at the Clearwater Threshers on Sept. 6, 2025.

Despite the high-scoring opener, Interstat’s game simulator projects a starkly different outcome for Saturday, predicting a 1-0 pitchers’ duel favoring Lakeland.

The series concludes Sunday at Steinbrenner Field before both clubs embark on extended stretches against division foes. Following the weekend set, Lakeland begins a six-game homestand against the Daytona Tortugas on Tuesday. Tampa will hit the road for a six-game series against the Clearwater Threshers starting Tuesday.
