Indianapolis Indians at Columbus Clippers
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Interstat) — The winless Indianapolis Indians look to snap a five-game skid and halt the Columbus Clippers’ perfect start when the International League rivals meet Saturday evening at Huntington Park.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. EDT under a forecast of 77-degree temperatures and rain.
The clubs have opened the season with a four-game series, all Columbus victories. The Clippers (5-0) swept a doubleheader Tuesday, won 6-1 on Wednesday and outlasted the Indians 9-8 on Thursday. Indianapolis (0-5) has lost each game of the series by a combined score of 27-10.
Right-hander Antwone Kelly (0-1, 4.50 ERA) is the probable starter for Indianapolis. He took the loss in Sunday’s season opener against Saint Paul, allowing three runs over six innings.
Columbus is expected to counter with right-hander Ryan Webb, who is making his season debut.
A player to watch for Indianapolis is reliever Noah Davis, who provided 4 2/3 scoreless, hitless innings with three strikeouts in Thursday’s narrow loss. For Columbus, outfielder Petey Halpin has been a key bat, including a three-RBI performance with a home run in Thursday’s win.
The Clippers’ offense has consistently produced, scoring at least three runs in every game this season. Indianapolis has struggled to match that output, scoring one run in three of its five losses.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projection for Saturday’s contest is a 7-3 victory for Columbus.
Following the game, the series concludes Sunday afternoon before both teams embark on new series next week.
