Indianapolis Indians at Columbus Clippers
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Interstat) — The Columbus Clippers, riding a perfect 5-0 start, will look to continue their dominance over the struggling Indianapolis Indians on Friday at Huntington Park.
The teams conclude their four-game series amid a forecast of 78-degree temperatures and rain. Columbus has won the first three meetings, including a 9-8 comeback victory Thursday.
The Clippers will send right-hander Rorik Maltrud (0-0) to the mound. Indianapolis counters with left-hander Nick Dombkowski (0-0) in a matchup of pitchers seeking their first decisions of the young season.
The clubs are at opposite ends of the early standings. Indianapolis (0-5) is the only winless team in the International League, while Columbus is one of two remaining unbeatens.
A player to watch for the Indians is reliever Noah Davis, who delivered 4 2/3 hitless, scoreless innings in Thursday’s loss. For Columbus, outfielder Petey Halpin has provided key power, including a three-run homer in Thursday’s win, one of his two home runs this season.
In their recent meetings, Columbus pitching has stifled Indianapolis, holding the Indians to one run in each of the series’ first two games before Thursday’s slugfest.
Despite the lopsided records, Interstat’s ELO rating system gives Indianapolis a slight 52.9% probability to win. However, the same service’s game simulator projects a 7-5 victory for the Clippers.
Following Friday’s contest, the teams meet again Saturday and Sunday in Columbus before Indianapolis returns home to face Louisville. The Clippers embark on a six-game road trip to Worcester starting Tuesday.
