Buffalo Bisons at Omaha Storm Chasers

OMAHA, Neb. (Interstat) — The Buffalo Bisons and Omaha Storm Chasers continue their early-season series at Werner Park on Thursday, with both teams looking to gain traction in wet and cold conditions.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CDT, though a forecast of 45-degree temperatures and rain could impact play. The game is the third of a four-game set.

Buffalo (2-2) will send right-hander Grant Rogers to the mound. Rogers enters with a season record of 0-0. He will be opposed by Omaha (1-3) right-hander Luinder Avila, who also holds an 0-0 record.

The series is tied 1-1. Omaha evened it with a 3-0 shutout victory Wednesday night, one day after Buffalo claimed a 6-4 win in the opener.

A player to watch for the Bisons is reliever Josh Fleming. In Wednesday’s loss, Fleming delivered 3 2/3 solid innings in relief, allowing one earned run on three hits with three strikeouts. For the Storm Chasers, reliever Ryan Bergert was dominant in the same game, tossing three hitless innings with four strikeouts to earn the win.

Both bullpens may be called upon early if the weather affects the starters’ command.

Offensively, the Bisons will aim to rebound after being blanked. They had scored 13 runs across their first two games. The Storm Chasers, who have lost three of their first four, hope their pitching can build on Wednesday’s strong performance, where Eli Morgan and Shane Panzini combined for four perfect innings of relief behind Bergert.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projection favors Buffalo with a 4-2 final score.

Following Thursday’s contest, the series concludes Friday night in Papillion before both clubs embark on new series next week.
