Asheville Tourists at Rome Braves

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Interstat) — The Asheville Tourists and Rome Braves will open their 2026 seasons against each other Thursday at State Mutual Stadium in a matchup of teams looking to start fresh after disappointing finales last year.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 81 degrees.

The Tourists will send right-hander Cole Hertzler to the mound. Hertzler, who has a season record of wins and losses, will be opposed by a Rome starter to be announced.

Both clubs finished their 2025 campaigns with losses on Sept. 7. Asheville fell 6-2 at Bowling Green, while Rome dropped a 6-1 decision at Hub City.

The Braves hold a slight statistical edge heading into the opener. According to Interstat’s ELO system, Rome has a 55.90% probability of winning. However, the same outlet’s game simulator projects a narrow 1-0 victory for the Tourists.

This game marks the beginning of a three-game series between the South Atlantic League foes. The teams will meet again in Rome on Friday and Saturday before embarking on extended road trips.

Following the series, the Tourists will travel to face the Greensboro Grasshoppers for a six-game set from April 7-12, then visit the Winston-Salem Dash for two games. The Braves will hit the road for a six-game series against the Bowling Green Hot Rods from April 7-12 before returning home to host the Jersey Shore BlueClaws.

Thursday’s contest offers both teams, each with an official 0-0 record, an immediate opportunity to build momentum for the long season ahead.
