Iowa Cubs at Louisville Bats

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Interstat) — The struggling Iowa Cubs look to snap an early-season skid when they open a six-game series against the hot-starting Louisville Bats at Louisville Slugger Field on Tuesday.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 75 degrees.

Iowa (0-2) arrives seeking its first win after two narrow home losses to Columbus, falling 4-3 on Saturday and 7-5 on Sunday. The Cubs will send left-hander Riley Martin to the mound. Louisville (2-0) has opened its season with a pair of victories over Omaha, including a 10-4 win on Sunday. The Bats are projected to start right-hander Brandon Leibrandt.

A player to watch for Iowa is right-hander Jaxon Wiggins, who delivered a strong relief outing in Sunday’s loss, allowing one earned run on two hits with six strikeouts over four innings. Third baseman Pedro Ramírez provided the offensive highlight with a three-run homer.

Louisville counters with its own standout pitcher in Davis Daniel, who earned the win Sunday by striking out six over four innings of one-hit ball. Catcher Will Banfield added a two-run homer in the victory.

According to Interstat, the Bats are projected favorites with a 54.2% probability to win. The service’s game simulator predicts a 6-1 Louisville victory.

Following Tuesday’s contest, the series continues through Sunday. Iowa then returns home to host Omaha beginning April 7, while Louisville hits the road for a series at Indianapolis starting April 7.
