Memphis Redbirds at Gwinnett Stripers
Redbirds, Stripers Set for Sunday Rubber Match
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (Interstat) — The Memphis Redbirds and Gwinnett Stripers will conclude their opening series with an afternoon contest Sunday at Coolray Field, each seeking an early-season series victory.
First pitch is scheduled for Sunday afternoon under cloudy skies with a temperature near 64 degrees.
Memphis (1-0) edged Gwinnett (0-1) 3-2 on Saturday. The Redbirds will look to carry that momentum behind probable starter Elieser Hernández. Gwinnett is expected to counter with right-hander Brycen Mautz.
A player to watch for Memphis is left-hander Bruce Zimmermann, who earned the win in relief Saturday with four strong innings, allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out five. For Gwinnett, veteran Carlos Carrasco turned in a quality start in the loss, yielding one earned run over five innings.
The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-1 victory for the visiting Redbirds.
Following Sunday’s game, Memphis returns home to begin a six-game series against the Norfolk Tides on Tuesday. Gwinnett hits the road for a six-game set against the Round Rock Express, also beginning Tuesday.
