Syracuse Mets at Lehigh Valley IronPigs
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (Interstat) — The Lehigh Valley IronPigs, owners of the International League’s best record, will look to continue their late-season dominance over the visiting Syracuse Mets when the AAA clubs continue their series at Coca-Cola Park on Saturday.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
The IronPigs (86-59) have won two of the first three games in this pivotal late-season set, including an 8-2 rout on Thursday. Christian Arroyo powered that victory, going 2 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs. Starter Griff McGarry was dominant, allowing just one hit and one earned run while striking out eight over five innings to secure the win.
Syracuse (75-72) has struggled for consistency, alternating wins and losses over its last 10 games. In Thursday’s loss, designated hitter Jared Young provided the lone offensive highlight with a solo home run. Relievers Douglas Orellana and Dylan Ross combined for 2 1/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The season series between the two teams has been tightly contested. While Lehigh Valley holds a commanding lead in the overall league standings, the Mets have won seven of the 15 head-to-head matchups this year, though the IronPigs have taken the last two meetings after the Mets won the series opener on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Interstat’s game simulator projects another close contest, favoring the home side with a predicted final score of Lehigh Valley 6, Syracuse 5.
Following Saturday’s game, the two teams will conclude their series on Sunday.
