Cosumnes River vs Los Medanos
LIVERMORE (Interstat) — The Cosumnes River Hawks will visit the Los Medanos Mustangs in a men’s junior college basketball game Friday at the Tony Costello Tip-Off Classic.
Both teams enter the matchup seeking their first win of the season. Cosumnes River is 0-2, and Los Medanos is 0-1. The Hawks have played two competitive games and will look to turn a pair of narrow results into a complete performance against the Mustangs. Los Medanos also is trying to move past a one-point outcome in its opener and will rely on its designated home-team status at the classic in Livermore.
Cosumnes River’s most recent game was a 69-65 loss at Columbia (Calif.). The Hawks also dropped an 80-79 decision to Marin earlier this season. Jaeden Goodman is the player to watch for Cosumnes River. In the Marin game, Goodman recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds while adding three assists in 20 minutes. His rebounding and ability to create for teammates give the Hawks a reliable option on both ends as they work through the early part of their schedule. Goodman’s production on the glass and his willingness to distribute will be important against a Los Medanos team looking to force difficult shots and control tempo.
Los Medanos opened with a 62-61 home loss to Siskiyous. The Mustangs will try to tighten their defense and find enough scoring to close out a tight game. With both teams coming off narrow defeats, Friday’s matchup could hinge on execution in the final minutes, rebounding and free-throw shooting. Cosumnes River will need Goodman to stay productive while others provide support, and Los Medanos will aim to protect its home-team advantage and even its record. The Mustangs will need balanced scoring and careful ball handling to avoid falling behind early, while the Hawks will try to control the boards and limit second-chance opportunities.
The Tony Costello Tip-Off Classic provides both programs an early-season opportunity to build momentum and gain experience against nonconference competition. Cosumnes River will continue its schedule with road and home games in the coming weeks, while Los Medanos also has a busy stretch ahead. The Hawks will look to establish consistency on offense, and the Mustangs will focus on defensive stops and efficient possessions. Both teams will aim to improve their execution after close losses and use the tournament setting as a measuring point for the weeks ahead.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of Los Medanos 88, Cosumnes River 78. Interstat’s ELO system gives Los Medanos a 65.8 percent probability to win.
