Northwest Florida State vs Vincennes

Northwest Florida State Battles Vincennes in NJCAA Second Round

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (Interstat) — A clash of contrasting resumes highlights Tuesday’s second round of the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship as the surging Northwest Florida State Raiders meet the powerhouse Vincennes Trailblazers.

The game tips off at 2 p.m. EDT on March 24 at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

Seventh-seeded Northwest Florida State (23-7) arrives after a hard-fought 83-75 first-round win over Bishop State on Sunday. The Raiders are powered by forward Justin Burns, who dominated with 16 rebounds and 10 points in that victory. Braylon Roman added a game-high 26 points. However, the Raiders’ form has been inconsistent, with a 3-3 record in their final six regular-season games, including narrow losses to in-state foes Chipola and Gulf Coast State.

They face a monumental task against second-seeded Vincennes (27-2), which enjoyed a first-round bye. The Trailblazers have been one of the nation’s most dominant teams, winning 15 of their last 16 games. Their only loss since Dec. 7 was a 86-74 setback at Kaskaskia on Feb. 21. They narrowly escaped their last outing, a 71-70 win over John A Logan on March 13 in their region final.

Vincennes is led by dynamic guard Jalen Calloway, who averaged over 20 points per game in his last four contests. He poured in 27 points with 8 rebounds in the tight win over John A Logan. The Trailblazers’ offense is high-octane, regularly scoring in the 90s, as seen in a 108-point outburst against Olney Central in February.

The matchup pits Northwest Florida State’s resilience against Vincennes’ sustained excellence. The Raiders must control the glass, led by Burns, to slow the Trailblazers’ transition attack and have a chance at the upset. Vincennes will rely on its depth and offensive firepower, seeking to advance to the national quarterfinals.

The winner will face either seed South Plains or seed Odessa in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
