Gulf Coast State vs Indian Hills

Preview: Seed Indian Hills Faces Gulf Coast State in NJCAA Second Round

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (Interstat) — A clash of contrasting resumes and momentum will unfold Monday when the No. 2-seeded Indian Hills Warriors meet the Gulf Coast State Commodores in the second round of the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.

Indian Hills (27-2), one of the tournament favorites, brings a model of consistency. The Warriors have won 12 consecutive games, last falling on Jan. 17. Their balanced attack is led by guard Taj Au-Duke, who averaged 12.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists over the final four regular-season contests. In Saturday’s 80-75 win over Dawson, Au-Duke posted 17 points and six rebounds.

The Warriors’ path has been dominant; they topped 90 points nine times this season and boast an average margin of victory of 24.3 points during their win streak.

Gulf Coast State (22-7) arrives with hard-earned resilience. The Commodores advanced by surviving a grueling 82-79 overtime battle against Brunswick on Saturday. Star forward Iyran Francis was pivotal in that win, recording 19 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks in 34 minutes. Guard Trent Lincoln carried the scoring load with a game-high 25 points in a full 44 minutes of action.

The Commodores’ recent form has been uneven, with a 4-3 record over their last seven games preceding the tournament. Their success hinges on controlling the interior through Francis and translating defensive stops into transition opportunities.

Monday’s matchup presents a classic tournament test: the established powerhouse against the battle-tested survivor. Indian Hills will aim to impose its will with depth and offensive flow, while Gulf Coast State will rely on its standout individual talent and the confidence forged in a tight opening-round victory. The winner advances to the national quarterfinals on Wednesday.
