GADSDEN, Ala. (Interstat) — Southern Union State avenged a loss from a week prior, outlasting Gadsden State 94-90 in a men’s junior college basketball game Thursday. The Bison built a nine-point halftime lead behind 50 second-quarter points and held off a Cardinals rally.

Dash Thomas led Southern Union State with 22 points. Isaiah Dennis added 23 points for the Bison, who improved to 8-19. Don Tinsley contributed 13 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Gadsden State, which fell to 11-10, had won the previous two meetings this season, including a 97-78 victory on March 5. The Cardinals were projected as heavy favorites entering the contest. Southern Union State shot 57% from the floor and secured the win despite attempting only 11 three-pointers.
