MIDLAND, Texas (Interstat) — The Midland Chaparrals edged the McLennan Highlanders 74-71 in a men’s junior college basketball game Thursday night.

Midland improved to 24-5, while McLennan fell to 19-2. The Chaparrals were led by Darius Carr’s 23 points and Duane Thompson’s double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Yeison Liberato added nine points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Amare Banks scored a game-high 24 points for McLennan. Joe Burgess contributed 13 points and nine rebounds, and Joseph Mayberry III had 14 points, six rebounds and five assists.

The teams were closely matched throughout, with Midland holding a narrow 36-32 lead after the first quarter and extending it slightly to a 74-71 final.
