Florida Southwestern State vs Chipola

High-Stakes Junior College Showdown Set for FCSAA Quarterfinals

MARIANNA, Fla. (Interstat) — A spot in the state semifinals will be on the line Wednesday when the Chipola Indians host the Florida Southwestern State Buccaneers in a men’s junior college basketball FCSAA Tournament quarterfinal.

The game, scheduled for March 11, 2026, pits two of the region’s top programs in a win-or-go-home scenario. Chipola (21-7) earned hosting rights with a stronger overall record, but Florida Southwestern State (19-6) enters with a potent offense capable of an upset.

The Buccaneers are led by dynamic guard Kenyon Giles, who has been on a scoring tear. Over his last four full games, Giles is averaging 20.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists, including a 26-point effort in a win over Santa Fe on Feb. 25. Florida Southwestern averages 84.2 points per game in its wins this season but is coming off a 101-85 road loss to Indian River State on March 2.

Chipola will counter with its own standout, Peyton Wiggins. The versatile forward is coming off a 21-point, 4-assist performance in a loss to Northwest Florida State on Feb. 28 and scored 25 points in a road win over Tallahassee State on Feb. 11. Wiggins provides scoring, playmaking and rim protection for the Indians.

The teams have followed similar paths late in the season, each suffering a double-digit road loss in their final regular-season contest. Chipola fell 77-62 at Northwest Florida State, while Florida Southwestern stumbled at Indian River.

History suggests a tight contest. Chipola’s recent games have featured nail-biters, including an overtime win over Tallahassee. Florida Southwestern has shown both explosive offense, scoring over 95 points three times since mid-January, and occasional vulnerability on the road.

The winner will advance to the FCSAA/NJCAA Region VIII semifinals, moving one step closer to a national tournament berth. Tipoff is set for Wednesday night at Milton H. Johnson Health Center.
