Columbia (Calif.) vs San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — A showdown between two of the state’s top junior college men’s basketball teams will determine a Northern California Regional champion when the seeded San Francisco Rams host the Columbia (Calif.) Claim Jumpers on Saturday.

Tipoff is set for March 7, 2026, in the third round of the regional playoffs, with the winner advancing to the state championship tournament.

San Francisco (27-1) enters as the heavy favorite, boasting the region’s best record and a dominant, consistent season. Their only loss came nearly three months ago. The Rams have won 16 consecutive games, most recently a commanding 85-52 victory over Foothill on Feb. 28. Their average margin of victory during the streak is 28.6 points, and they have not allowed an opponent to score 80 points since November.

Columbia (24-4) presents a formidable challenge, led by a potent offense that has scored 80 or more points in 14 games this season. The Claim Jumpers are riding a five-game winning streak, including a tense 67-65 road victory at Cosumnes River in their playoff opener on Feb. 28. However, their record reveals vulnerability against elite competition; a 95-66 road loss to Sequoias on Feb. 20 stands as their most lopsided defeat.

The matchup hinges on Columbia’s ability to withstand San Francisco’s relentless pressure and depth. The Rams’ defense has suffocated opponents all season, while their offense features multiple scoring threats. Columbia will rely on its offensive firepower and resilience, evidenced by several close victories, including a 76-73 win over Sequoias in January.

This marks the first meeting between the programs this season. A San Francisco victory would solidify its status as the state title favorite, while a Columbia upset would be the most significant of the postseason.
