Yuba vs West Valley
Preview: 3C2A Northern California Regional Final - Yuba at West Valley
SARATOGA, Calif. (Interstat) — A trip to the state final four will be on the line Saturday when the West Valley Vikings host the Yuba 49ers in the men’s 3C2A Northern California Regional Final.
The matchup, set for a 7 p.m. tip on March 7, 2026, pits two of the region’s top junior college programs, separated by just one game in the standings. West Valley (23-6), the region’s top seed, will have home-court advantage against the second-seeded 49ers (22-6).
Both teams enter on hot streaks. Yuba has won eight of its last nine games, including a hard-fought 68-63 victory over Sequoias in its previous outing on Feb. 28. The 49ers’ offense has been potent, scoring 80 or more points in seven of those nine contests. Their only recent misstep was a narrow 63-62 home loss to Contra Costa on Feb. 11.
West Valley has been equally dominant, winning 10 of its last 11. The Vikings are coming off a commanding 70-37 win over San Mateo on Feb. 28 and have showcased a stifling defense, holding opponents under 55 points in five of their last six victories. A 72-66 road loss to Cabrillo on Jan. 23 marks their only blemish since mid-January.
The game features a compelling contrast. Yuba relies on a high-scoring attack that has averaged approximately 84 points per game during its recent run. West Valley counters with a formidable defense that has consistently smothered opponents, yielding an average of just 52 points over its last six wins.
History will also be at stake. The winner advances to the California Community College Athletic Association state championship tournament, making this a de facto quarterfinal for a coveted final four berth.
With nearly identical records, contrasting styles, and a season’s worth of ambition on the line, the regional final at West Valley College promises a tense, high-stakes battle between two teams peaking at the perfect time.
