Garden City vs Cloud County

CONCORDIA, Kan. (Interstat) — A season series defined by narrow margins will see its rubber match with higher stakes Saturday when the Cloud County Thunderbirds host the Garden City Broncbusters in the opening round of the NJCAA Division I Plains District Tournament.

The men’s junior college basketball matchup, set for March 7, 2026, features two teams with nearly identical records seeking postseason momentum. Garden City (16-13) enters as the visitor, while Cloud County (15-13) holds the home court.

The teams split their two regular-season meetings, each winning on their opponent’s floor. Cloud County took the most recent encounter 91-85 on Feb. 25, but Garden City’s visit Saturday provides a quick opportunity for redemption in a win-or-go-home scenario.

A key matchup will feature two standout guards. Garden City’s Dasean Lewis, coming off a 14-point, 4-assist performance in a narrow 74-73 loss to Coffeyville on Monday, has been a consistent catalyst. He scored 16 points in the loss at Cloud County last month and erupted for 33 points in a win over Dodge City on Feb. 21.

Cloud County will counter with Manasseh Stackhouse, who dominated the paint in the Feb. 25 victory over Garden City, posting 12 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. He is fresh off an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double in a loss at Independence on Wednesday.

Both teams have struggled for consistency down the stretch. The Broncbusters have lost four of their last five games, with three of those defeats by six points or fewer. The Thunderbirds have dropped two straight but had won four of five prior to that skid.

The winner advances in the district tournament, moving one step closer to a berth in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament. With the season series tied and both teams’ records mirroring each other, Saturday’s contest is expected to be another tightly contested chapter in their rivalry.
