Shawnee vs John A Logan
Preview: Shawnee Saints at John A Logan Volunteers
CARTERVILLE, Ill. (Interstat) — The John A Logan Volunteers will look to complete a regular-season sweep when they host the Shawnee Saints in a men’s junior college basketball game Wednesday night.
The Volunteers (14-7) dominated the first meeting, a 92-72 home victory over Shawnee on Feb. 16. They enter on a three-game winning streak, most recently an 83-62 rout of Lincoln Trail on Saturday. Christian Doerr led that effort with 17 points, five rebounds and six assists, continuing his strong play. In the Feb. 16 win over Shawnee, Doerr posted 16 points, three rebounds and two assists.
Shawnee (9-11) arrives with momentum from a 75-68 home victory over Kaskaskia on Saturday, snapping a two-game skid. The Saints are led by guard Zion Greene, who is coming off a 15-point, six-rebound, seven-assist performance in a win at Lake Land on Feb. 25. In the loss to John A Logan earlier this season, Greene contributed 14 points and five rebounds.
The Saints have shown recent improvement, winning three of their last five, but face a significant challenge against a Volunteers squad that has won eight of its last ten. John A Logan’s offense, which averages over 85 points per game during its current win streak, will test a Shawnee defense that allowed 92 points in the previous matchup.
Beyond Doerr, the Volunteers boast balanced scoring. Marcus Eaves (12 points, seven rebounds, six assists) and Justice Decker (11 points, eight rebounds, four blocks) were also key contributors in the win over Lincoln Trail.
For Shawnee to reverse February’s result, they will need to contain the Volunteers’ transition game and find consistent scoring beyond Greene. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at John A Logan College.
