Williston State vs Dawson
GLENDIVE, Mont. (Interstat) — A men’s junior college basketball rematch with playoff implications is set for Wednesday when the Dawson Buccaneers host the Williston State Tetons.
The game, scheduled for March 4, 2026, at Dawson’s home court, is the third meeting this season between the Mon-Dak Athletic Conference foes. The teams have split the previous contests, with each winning on the other’s home floor. Dawson (17-8 overall) edged Williston State 92-89 here on Feb. 16, while the Tetons (7-11) secured an 86-68 victory in Williston on Jan. 22.
Dawson enters with a significant advantage in the standings and seeks to solidify its postseason positioning. The Buccaneers have won three of their last four, including the narrow victory over Williston State earlier this month. In that game, Dawson’s balance proved key, with Delray Lilley scoring 19 points, Zakai Owens adding 10 points and eight rebounds, and Brandon Hymes contributing 23 points.
Williston State, however, possesses the most dynamic individual talent on the floor in sophomore guard Josiah McDonald. He was spectacular in the last meeting, pouring in 43 points, grabbing 12 rebounds and blocking three shots in the narrow loss. McDonald is averaging 25.8 points over his last five games, including a 25-point outing in a win over Lake Region State on Feb. 19. The Tetons are looking to bounce back from a 75-49 home loss to North Dakota State College of Science on Feb. 23, a game in which McDonald was held to 11 points.
The Buccaneers’ defense, which limited Williston State to 49 points in its last outing, will again be focused on containing McDonald. A Dawson win would secure the season series and continue its push toward a high conference tournament seed. A Williston State victory would provide a crucial resume boost and prove its capability to compete with the region’s top teams, fueled by McDonald’s explosive scoring ability.
