USC Salkehatchie vs Gaston
GASTONIA, N.C. (Interstat) — A high-powered men’s junior college basketball matchup is set for Monday when the Gaston Rhinos host the USC Salkehatchie Indians at Ashbrook High School.
The Rhinos (11-2), boasting one of the region’s top records, will face an Indians squad (9-3) that features one of the nation’s most explosive offenses. The game tips off at 7 p.m. on Feb. 16.
Gaston enters on a strong defensive note, coming off a 66-56 road win at Richard Bland on Saturday. The Rhinos are led by standout Kaleb Siler, who dominated in that victory with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Gaston’s only two losses this season came on the road against Cape Fear and Brunswick.
USC Salkehatchie counters with an offensive juggernaut, averaging over 100 points per game in its last three contests. The Indians are riding a two-game winning streak, including a 103-85 home victory over Wake Tech on Saturday. Their potent attack was on full display in a 142-point outburst against Cape Fear on Feb. 10.
However, the Indians’ high-scoring style has shown vulnerability on the road, where they suffered losses to Brunswick and Daytona State earlier this season. Containing Siler inside will be a primary challenge for Salkehatchie’s defense.
This contest is the first of a quick home-and-home series between the teams. They are scheduled to meet again at USC Salkehatchie on Wednesday, Feb. 25, adding immediate stakes to Monday’s result.
The game features a contrast in styles: Gaston’s balanced and disciplined approach against Salkehatchie’s relentless, up-tempo offense. The outcome will likely hinge on whether the Rhinos can control the pace and limit the Indians’ transition opportunities, or if Salkehatchie’s firepower can overwhelm another strong opponent on its home floor.
