San Joaquin Delta vs American River

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Interstat) — Two California junior college men’s basketball teams on opposite trajectories will meet Tuesday when the San Joaquin Delta Mustangs visit the American River Beavers.

The Mustangs (8-9) enter the contest looking to snap a three-game skid and get back to .500. Their most recent outing was an 80-66 home loss to Santa Rosa last Friday. Prior to that, Delta fell at Folsom Lake 85-71 and dropped a home game to Diablo Valley, 90-73. Their last victory came on Jan. 10, a 71-65 road win at Sacramento City.

Conversely, American River (2-16) is mired in a prolonged slump, seeking just its third win of the season. The Beavers have lost 10 consecutive games, with their last victory dating to early December. They are coming off an 83-72 home loss to Diablo Valley on Friday. During their losing streak, they have been defeated by an average margin of 24.5 points.

Despite their recent struggles, the Mustangs have shown a higher offensive ceiling than the Beavers this season. Delta has scored 85 or more points in three games, including a 109-point performance against Los Medanos in December. American River has not scored more than 81 points in any game this season and has been held under 65 points eight times.

The matchup presents a critical opportunity for both teams. For Delta, it is a chance to stabilize its season and build momentum before a rematch with Cosumnes River next week. For American River, the game represents one of its more winnable remaining contests on paper as it tries to halt a demoralizing streak.

The teams last met during the 2024-25 season, with Delta winning both contests.

Tuesday’s game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. PST tipoff at American River College. Following this game, Delta will host Cosumnes River on Feb. 3, while American River travels to face Sierra on Jan. 30.
