Andrew vs Central Georgia
MACON, Ga. (Interstat) — Roosevelt Brown scored 23 points to lead Central Georgia Technical College to a 64-43 victory over Andrew College in a men’s junior college basketball game Wednesday night.
The Titans used a dominant first quarter to build an insurmountable lead, outscoring the Fighting Tigers 37-16 in the opening period and never looking back. The win evened Central Georgia’s season record at 5-5, while Andrew fell to 2-4.
The game’s decisive stretch came early, as Central Georgia capitalized on a catastrophic offensive start by Andrew. The Fighting Tigers missed their first 11 field goal attempts and committed five turnovers before finally scoring their first basket, a layup by Jasiyah Suber, with just under 19 minutes elapsed in the first half. By that point, Central Georgia had already built a 15-2 lead.
Andrew’s shooting struggles were profound and persistent. The Fighting Tigers finished the game shooting just 25.4% from the floor, making only 17 of 67 attempts. They were anemic from beyond the arc, connecting on just 2 of 19 three-point attempts. Despite forcing 23 Central Georgia turnovers and collecting 15 steals, Andrew could not convert those extra opportunities into points, hampered by its own 19 turnovers and inefficient offense.
Central Georgia, meanwhile, found its rhythm behind Brown. The Titans’ top star added seven rebounds, two blocks and a steal to his game-high point total. He was instrumental in the first-quarter blitz, scoring 11 points during the period, including a three-pointer in the final minute that pushed the lead to 37-16.
Kaziaes Hemphill provided strong support for the Titans with nine points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Lemar Edmond also scored nine points and had three assists and three steals. The Titans’ defense was anchored by 12 blocked shots as a team, stifling Andrew’s attempts to score inside.
For Andrew, Suber and Elijah White each scored 10 points. Koby Johnson added six points and four rebounds. The Fighting Tigers were more effective at the free-throw line, making 7 of 8 attempts, but their inability to score from the field proved too great a deficit to overcome.
After the lopsided first quarter, the second quarter was more evenly matched, with both teams scoring 27 points. But the early damage was done, and Central Georgia maintained a comfortable margin throughout the remainder of the game, leading by as many as 21 points.
Central Georgia finished the game shooting 48.1% from the field and outrebounded Andrew 40-31. The Titans’ offensive rating of 87.5 points per 100 possessions significantly outpaced Andrew’s rating of 54.6, underscoring the gap in offensive efficiency.
Andrew will look to rebound when it hosts South Georgia Tech on Saturday. Central Georgia travels to face Gordon State, also on Saturday. The two teams are scheduled to meet again in Cuthbert, Georgia, on Feb. 25.
