Angelina vs Navarro

Angelina, Navarro Set for Rematch in Rescheduled Men’s Junior College Basketball Clash

CORSICANA, Texas (Interstat) — A tightly contested conference race will see a pivotal rematch Saturday when the Angelina Roadrunners visit the Navarro Bulldogs in a men’s junior college basketball game rescheduled from Jan. 24 due to weather.

Both teams enter the contest at .500 or better in Region XIV play, with Angelina holding a narrow edge in the overall season series. The Roadrunners (15-12) edged the Bulldogs (14-14) 63-62 in a thrilling home victory on Feb. 14, a result that will undoubtedly fuel Navarro’s desire for payback on its home floor.

Angelina arrives having won three of its last four, including a gritty 51-50 road win at Lamar State-Port Arthur on Wednesday. Milton Rice III provided a crucial spark off the bench in that victory, scoring eight points with four rebounds and two assists in just one minute of action. The guard has been a key variable for the Roadrunners, averaging 7.3 points and 3.4 rebounds over his last seven games. His energy will be vital against a Navarro squad known for its offensive bursts.

The Bulldogs, however, are riding a wave of momentum after a dominant 101-77 road victory over Coastal Bend on Wednesday. That win showcased the high-octane offense Navarro can deploy, a trend highlighted in a 94-75 rout of Paris on Feb. 25. In that game, guard Jalyn Olson Patterson delivered a spectacular triple-double with 18 points and 15 assists. Patterson, who had 11 points and six assists in the narrow loss to Angelina last month, is the engine for the Bulldogs’ attack and will be the primary focus of the Roadrunners’ defense.

Navarro’s recent performances have been marked by volatility, with lopsided wins followed by challenging losses. Consistency will be their target against an Angelina team that has proven resilient in close games. The Roadrunners’ recent success has been built on defense, holding three of their last five opponents under 52 points.

With both teams clustered in the conference standings, Saturday’s outcome carries significant weight for postseason positioning. Angelina will look to replicate its defensive intensity from the first meeting, while Navarro aims to leverage its home court and explosive scoring potential to split the season series.

Tip-off is set for Saturday, March 7, at the Wolens Special Events Center.
