Barstow vs Long Beach
Vikings Seek Elusive Win as Barstow Meets Long Beach in Wild West Shootout
LONG BEACH, Calif. (Interstat) — Two struggling programs with identical records and the same nickname will battle for a rare victory Friday when the Barstow Vikings face the Long Beach Vikings in a California community college men’s basketball game at the Wild West Shootout.
Both teams enter the non-conference matchup at 1-6 overall, each mired in a five-game losing streak. Barstow fell 81-72 at West Los Angeles on Thursday. Long Beach suffered a similarly narrow 94-90 home loss to Rio Hondo the same day.
The game features a clash of standout individual performers trying to lift their teams. Barstow will rely on forward Peter Oguama, who is coming off a 14-point, 8-rebound performance against West Los Angeles. Oguama recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds in a loss to Allan Hancock on Nov. 22.
Long Beach’s hopes rest heavily on Kamron Fontenot, who exploded for 23 points and eight rebounds in Thursday’s defeat. He has averaged 15.7 points over his last three contests.
Despite the teams’ parallel records, statistical models show a divergence. Interstat’s ELO rating system gives Long Beach an 88.5% probability to win. However, the same service’s game simulator predicts a 100-100 draw, suggesting the potential for a high-scoring, competitive affair.
Barstow’s lone win came against Bakersfield, 81-77, on Nov. 4. Long Beach’s single victory was a 69-66 decision over Rio Hondo on Nov. 7. Both teams have struggled defensively, with Barstow allowing an average of 76.3 points and Long Beach yielding 84.7 points during their respective skids.
Following this matchup, Barstow continues its road stretch at El Camino on Dec. 11. Long Beach hosts Citrus on Dec. 9.
Tip-off is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 5, 2025.
