Rio Hondo vs Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum will meet Thursday when the Long Beach City College Vikings host the Rio Hondo College Roadrunners in a non-conference men’s junior college basketball game at the Wild West Shootout.

Both teams enter with identical 1-5 records, each searching for just their second win of the season. The matchup is a quick rematch of a Nov. 7 game, which Long Beach won 69-66 at home.

Rio Hondo (1-5) snapped a five-game skid with a 78-73 road win over Oxnard on Nov. 28. Ryan Osborne led the way with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Bobby Reyes added 15 points and eight boards.

Long Beach (1-5) is coming off a 72-65 overtime road loss to Cypress on Nov. 26. Zakai Hunter scored 10 points off the bench, and Kamron Fontenot added a team-high 14 points.

In the first meeting this season, the Vikings edged the Roadrunners by three points. Rio Hondo’s offense has since shown signs of life, scoring a season-high 78 points in its latest outing.

The game is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 4, at a neutral site within the Wild West Shootout event.
