Orange Coast vs Compton

COMPTON, Calif. (Interstat) — The Compton Tartars used a dominant performance on the glass and a torrid second-quarter surge to overpower the Orange Coast Pirates 96-80 in a California community college men’s basketball game Thursday night.

The Tartars, who entered as overwhelming favorites according to predictive metrics, overcame a sharp-shooting start from the Pirates by controlling the paint and capitalizing on a significant rebounding advantage to pull away after halftime.

Orange Coast, fueled by Adrian Gonzalez’s early scoring burst, built a surprising lead in the opening minutes. Gonzalez hit three consecutive three-pointers in the first two minutes, helping the Pirates jump ahead. However, Compton’s interior presence, led by Israel Nansha, began to wear down the visitors. Despite trailing early, the Tartars closed the first quarter on a 12-4 run to narrow the gap, entering the second period down 51-40.
