Colorado Northwestern vs Snow
Preview: Unbeaten Snow Hosts Struggling Colorado Northwestern in Junior College Men’s Basketball
EPHRAIM, Utah (Interstat) — A stark contrast in trajectories will be on display Saturday when the unbeaten and No. 1-ranked Snow College Badgers host the Colorado Northwestern Spartans in a Scenic West Athletic Conference men’s junior college basketball game.
The Badgers (15-0 overall, 4-0 SWAC) enter as one of the nation’s dominant forces, boasting an average margin of victory of 28.7 points. Their most recent outing was a characteristic 88-54 rout of Gillette on Dec. 19. Snow’s offense, averaging 98.1 points per game, is fueled by a deep roster, but forward Brock McClure has been a consistent standout. In his last six games, McClure has averaged 18.0 points and 9.3 rebounds, recording four double-doubles in that span, including a 22-point, 14-rebound performance against Hill College on Dec. 6.
Conversely, the Spartans (3-9, 0-4) have struggled, particularly in conference play. They are on a five-game skid, with their last outing a 63-56 loss at Yavapai on Dec. 13. Their lone bright spot in recent weeks was an 88-87 road win at Central Arizona on Dec. 12. Defense has been a persistent issue; Colorado Northwestern has allowed 100 or more points in four of its nine losses this season.
Despite the glaring disparity in records, Interstat’s game simulator projects a highly unusual 100-100 tie, suggesting potential for an offensive shootout. For the Spartans to approach that projection, they must find a way to slow a Snow team that has scored at least 102 points in three of its last five games.
The Badgers have already navigated close calls, including a 96-91 overtime win against McCook and an 88-83 overtime victory at South Plains, proving they can win under pressure. Colorado Northwestern will need near-perfect execution to end Snow’s perfect start.
This game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams. They are scheduled to meet again in Rangely, Colorado, on Feb. 7.
Saturday’s tipoff at the Horne Activity Center is set for 5 p.m. MST. Snow continues conference play at home against Salt Lake on Tuesday. Colorado Northwestern travels to face Utah State Eastern next Tuesday.
