San Diego Miramar vs Rio Hondo

WHITTIER, Calif. (Interstat) — The San Diego Miramar Jets delivered an offensive clinic, overwhelming the Rio Hondo Roadrunners in a decisive 91-57 victory in a California Community College men’s basketball game Saturday.

From the opening tip, the Jets established a dominant pace, erupting for 37 points in the first quarter and never looking back. Their offensive efficiency was staggering, as they shot 60.3 percent from the floor, connecting on 35 of 58 field goal attempts. The Jets’ attack was balanced and relentless, extending their lead with a 54-point second quarter to put the game out of reach.

Christian Washington led the charge for Miramar, scoring a game-high 25 points and adding six rebounds. Ah-Zion Applewhaite provided a powerful secondary punch, contributing 20 points and six rebounds, while Dalton Norvell chipped in 15 points. Dimetrius Simpson orchestrated the offense with a well-rounded performance of seven points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.

The Jets’ defense was equally formidable, forcing 17 Rio Hondo turnovers and converting them into easy transition opportunities. San Diego Miramar also recorded 12 steals, with Simpson and Zyun McGee leading the disruptive effort.

In contrast, the Roadrunners struggled to find any consistent rhythm. Rio Hondo shot just 35.1 percent from the field and a frigid 23.1 percent from beyond the arc, making only 6 of 26 three-point attempts. Matthew Rodriguez was a bright spot for the home team, finishing with 10 points and seven rebounds. Bode Karunwi added eight points.

The lopsided result was reflected in nearly every statistical category. The Jets outrebounded the Roadrunners 37-28 and dished out twice as many assists, 12 to 6. San Diego Miramar’s offensive rating of 131.6 on 69 possessions dwarfed Rio Hondo’s mark of 81.3 on 70 possessions, underscoring the vast gap in execution.

With the win, San Diego Miramar improves its season record to 3-2, building momentum after a 62-52 victory over Orange Coast two days prior. The loss extends a difficult start for Rio Hondo, which remains winless at 0-4 on the season. The Roadrunners have lost their games by an average of just over seven points, but were outmatched by the Jets’ explosive performance.

The game’s outcome defied the projection from Interstat’s game simulator, which had forecast a narrow, high-scoring affair. The Jets’ dominant showing proved far more decisive than even their high ELO-based win probability had suggested.

San Diego Miramar looks to continue its winning ways on the road at Santa Ana on Tuesday. Rio Hondo will seek its first victory of the season when it hosts Santa Ana next Friday.
