EL DORADO, Kan. (Interstat) — The Howard (Tex.) Hawks narrowly defeated the Butler (Kan.) Grizzly Bears 95-94 in a men’s junior college basketball game Tuesday night. The contest was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams locked in a high-scoring first half. Howard led by a single point at halftime.

Daniel Culberson led the Hawks with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Terry Copeland scored a game-high 22 points. The victory improved Howard’s record to 1-1, bouncing back from a one-point loss the previous night. Butler, which was a heavy statistical favorite to win, also moves to 1-1 on the season.
