Ohlone vs Chabot
HAYWARD, Calif. (Interstat) — A crucial Coast Conference North Division men’s junior college basketball matchup is set for Friday when the Chabot Gladiators host the Ohlone Renegades.
The Gladiators (17-9 overall) enter the contest looking to solidify their standing and rebound from a 76-57 road loss to San Francisco on Feb. 13. The Renegades (11-15) aim to halt a two-game skid, most recently a 93-73 home defeat to Las Positas on that same date.
Chabot holds both a season-series and recent-results advantage. The Gladiators defeated the Renegades 76-64 in Fremont on Jan. 28, a game that was part of a challenging stretch for Ohlone. Since that loss, the Renegades have gone 1-4, with their sole win a 96-80 victory at De Anza on Feb. 11. Their offense has been inconsistent, scoring 54 and 64 points in losses to San Francisco and San Mateo, respectively, before the De Anza outburst.
Chabot’s path has also been uneven, with a 3-3 record over its last six games. A player to watch for the Gladiators is Kamari King, though his recent minutes have been limited.
Ohlone’s defense will be tested to contain a Chabot team that scored efficiently in their first meeting. The Renegades have allowed an average of 84.5 points in their last four losses. Conversely, Chabot will seek to improve upon its own recent offensive performance after being held under 60 points in two of its last three outings.
The game tips off at 7 p.m. on Feb. 20 at Chabot College. With both teams seeking momentum ahead of the postseason, the rivalry clash promises high intensity as Chabot looks to complete the regular-season sweep and Ohlone fights for a pivotal road win to reverse its fortunes.
