Orange Coast vs Saddleback
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. (Interstat) — A struggling Orange Coast College squad seeks to snap a lengthy skid when it visits .500 Saddleback College in a California community college men’s basketball game Friday night.
The Orange Coast Pirates (1-25) enter on a 10-game losing streak, with their lone win this season coming back in November. Their most recent outing was a 97-58 road loss to Irvine Valley on Feb. 12. The Saddleback Bobcats (13-13) look to rebound after an 85-67 loss at Cypress on that same date, which halted a brief two-game win streak.
The Pirates will lean on guard Chris Obiajulu, who has been a consistent bright spot during the difficult season. He is averaging 18.8 points over his last five games, including a 27-point performance against Santiago Canyon on Feb. 10. In the teams’ first meeting this season, a 77-59 Saddleback road victory on Jan. 28, Obiajulu was held to 11 points.
Saddleback counters with forward Jacob Simon, who provides efficient scoring off the bench. Simon poured in 17 points in just 18 minutes against Cypress and scored 16 points in 12 minutes in the Jan. 28 win over Orange Coast. His defensive presence is also notable, having recorded four blocks in a win over Irvine Valley on Feb. 4.
The Bobcats have shown more balance and consistency, having won three of their last five games. Orange Coast has lost those same five games by an average margin of 24.2 points, though they kept it close in an 80-82 loss at Santa Ana on Feb. 4.
Tipoff is set for Friday at Saddleback College. General admission tickets are $10, with discounted rates of $8 for children ages 6-12, seniors 60+, and military with ID. Parking is $5.
