Cerritos vs Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif. (Interstat) — The Cerritos Falcons used a dominant first-half offensive explosion to cruise past the Long Beach Vikings 86-59 in a men’s junior college basketball game Friday night.

From the opening tip, the Falcons established control, building a double-digit lead early and never looking back. Cerritos shot 50% from the field in the first half, including 6 of 13 from three-point range, to take a commanding 40-30 lead into the break. The Vikings struggled to find any consistent offensive rhythm against a stout Cerritos defense.

The second half offered no respite for Long Beach. The Falcons continued their efficient scoring, adding 46 points while their defense clamped down further, holding the Vikings to 29 points. The game was never in doubt as Cerritos led wire-to-wire, extending their advantage throughout the final period.

The most important stretch of the game came early in the first half, setting the tone for the evening. After a sloppy start from both sides featuring three combined turnovers and several missed shots, Cerritos’ Dorian Tate broke the seal with a tip-in at the 18:49 mark. This sparked a personal run for Tate, who scored the Falcons’ first six points. While Long Beach’s Lawrence Brown answered with a jump shot to get the Vikings on the board, Cerritos responded with immediate baskets, preventing any early momentum shift. Tate’s early activity, including a dunk at the 16:39 mark, helped Cerritos build a cushion that Long Beach, plagued by poor shooting, could never seriously threaten.

Dorian Tate was the top star for Cerritos, leading all scorers with 29 points and pulling down 13 rebounds in just 25 minutes of action. His interior presence was overwhelming. David Mack facilitated the offense with eight assists to go with 11 points, while Isaac Sowell controlled the glass with 15 rebounds.

For Long Beach, Lawrence Brown labored for 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds in 40 minutes. Kamron Fontenot added 13 points. The Vikings shot a frigid 26.2% from the field and just 25% from beyond the arc. Their offensive rating of 72.3 points per 100 possessions underscored a night of offensive futility.

Cerritos improved its season record to 24-4, solidifying its position as one of the region’s top teams. Long Beach fell to 4-23. The Falcons also dominated the rebounding battle 55-36 and blocked five shots, further highlighting their defensive and physical superiority.

The victory extended Cerritos’ winning streak to five games. The Falcons had defeated Long Beach just over two weeks prior on Feb. 4 by a score of 90-81. The rematch proved far less competitive, as Cerritos executed its game plan effectively from start to finish, leaving the Vikings with no answers on either end of the floor.
