Palomar vs MiraCosta
Preview: Palomar Comets at MiraCosta Spartans
OCEANSIDE, Calif. (Interstat) — The Palomar Comets visit the MiraCosta Spartans in a California Community College men’s basketball matchup Wednesday night, looking to solidify their playoff positioning and complete a regular-season sweep.
Palomar (16-8) enters with a superior record but is looking to rebound from a narrow 81-79 home loss to Grossmont on Feb. 13. The Comets had won three of their previous four games prior to that defeat.
The Spartans (9-14) are mired in a four-game losing streak, most recently a 102-79 home loss to San Diego City on Feb. 13. MiraCosta’s last victory was an 89-87 win over San Diego Miramar on Jan. 23.
The Comets won the first meeting this season decisively, 101-74 at home on Jan. 21. In that game, Palomar’s standout guard Jaidyn Norman was limited to 21 minutes and just two points. He has been on a tear since, averaging a double-double over his last five contests. Norman is coming off a 28-point, 10-rebound, six-assist performance in the loss to Grossmont.
MiraCosta will counter with forward Logan Mason, who has been a consistent force on the boards. Mason has recorded a double-double in three of his last four games, including a 22-point, 14-rebound effort against Grossmont on Feb. 4. He was held to 11 minutes and nine points in the first matchup against Palomar.
For Palomar, supporting contributors like Justin White (14 points, eight rebounds vs. Grossmont) and Angel Ochoa will be key. The Comets’ offense has shown high-scoring potential, exceeding 100 points three times this season.
The Spartans, who have struggled defensively during their skid, will need a stronger performance at home to contain Palomar’s attack and reverse their recent fortunes. MiraCosta’s last win over Palomar dates to the 2023-24 season.
Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. PST at MiraCosta College. Palomar’s next game is at home against San Diego City on Friday. MiraCosta travels to face San Diego Miramar on Friday.
