Cuyamaca vs Imperial Valley
Preview: Cuyamaca Coyotes at Imperial Valley Arabs
EL CENTRO, Calif. (Interstat) — The Imperial Valley College Arabs will seek their first win of the season when they host the Cuyamaca College Coyotes in a California Community College men’s basketball matchup Wednesday night.
Imperial Valley (0-25) is enduring a winless campaign, with its last 10 losses coming by an average margin of 36.2 points. The Arabs fell 111-63 at San Diego Miramar in their most recent outing on Feb. 13.
Cuyamaca (9-15) enters on a three-game skid but is heavily favored, having defeated Imperial Valley 89-54 in their first meeting on Jan. 21. In that game, Coyotes guard Kenneth Klu logged a triple-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in just one minute of play, according to available statistics.
Klu has been a consistent performer for Cuyamaca. He is coming off a 14-point, 7-rebound, 5-assist effort in a 70-83 loss at San Diego Mesa on Feb. 11. Patrick Delahoussaye added 12 points and seven rebounds in that defeat.
Imperial Valley’s player to watch is John Goodwin, who scored nine points in 15 minutes against San Diego City on Feb. 4. The Arabs have struggled defensively, allowing 100 or more points in seven games this season.
Despite the teams’ disparate records, Interstat’s game simulator projects a 100-100 tie, suggesting a potentially high-scoring affair. The simulator’s outcome would represent a significant offensive breakthrough for Imperial Valley, which has not scored more than 77 points in a game this season.
For Cuyamaca, this game represents a critical opportunity to halt its losing streak and build momentum before hosting Grossmont on Friday. The Coyotes’ last victory was a 76-57 win at MiraCosta on Jan. 28.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST at Imperial Valley College.
