Moorpark vs Oxnard
Preview: Moorpark Raiders at Oxnard Condors
OXNARD, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Moorpark team visits a struggling Oxnard squad in a California community college men’s basketball rivalry game Wednesday night.
The Moorpark Raiders (16-9) have won four of their last five games, including a 77-71 victory over Allan Hancock on Feb. 11. They will look to continue that momentum against the Oxnard Condors (6-18), who snapped a six-game losing streak with an 85-80 road win at Los Angeles Pierce on Feb. 14.
Moorpark dominated the first meeting this season, winning 80-55 at home on Jan. 24. Raiders guard Eric Kubel, a key player to watch, had 6 points in that contest. Kubel is coming off a career-high 30-point performance in the win over Allan Hancock and has averaged 18.3 points over his last six games.
Oxnard will counter with guard Jose Valdovinos, who led the Condors with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists in their recent victory. Valdovinos will need a strong performance to help Oxnard improve on its 1-7 record in games decided by 10 points or fewer this season.
The Raiders have shown a potent offense, scoring 95 points in a win at Cuesta on Feb. 7. Oxnard’s defense, which allows an average of 74.2 points per game, will be tested.
Moorpark currently sits in third place in the Western State Conference North Division, while Oxnard is in sixth. A win for the Raiders would solidify their playoff positioning, while the Condors aim to build on their latest win and play spoiler in the rivalry.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Condor Center.
