Los Angeles Pierce vs Cuesta
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams seeking to halt slides will meet Wednesday when the Cuesta Cougars host the Los Angeles Pierce Brahmas in a California Community College Athletic Association matchup.
The game is a rematch of a Jan. 24 thriller, which Cuesta won 82-78 in overtime at Pierce. In that contest, Cougars guard Ryan McNamee logged 40 minutes, contributing 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and a block.
Both teams enter Wednesday’s contest on losing streaks. The visiting Brahmas (5-20) have dropped four straight, most recently an 85-80 home loss to Oxnard on Saturday. The Cougars (9-17) have lost three of their last four, including a 114-101 defeat to Ventura on Saturday.
A key matchup will feature two of the conference’s top guards. Pierce’s Mandell Anthony is averaging 18.6 points over his last five games, including a 24-point, five-rebound, five-assist performance against Oxnard. For Cuesta, Ryan McNamee is coming off a 22-point outing against Ventura and recorded a 10-point, 15-rebound double-double in a win at Oxnard on Feb. 11.
In the January meeting, Pierce’s King Miller posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, a feat he replicated with 13 points and 11 boards in the recent Oxnard loss. Cuesta’s Aiden Pearsall-Morgan, who had 15 points and five rebounds Saturday, will also be a factor.
The Brahmas have struggled offensively during their skid, failing to reach 65 points in three of the four losses. The Cougars have shown volatility, scoring 101 points in a loss but also being held to 52 in a defeat at Allan Hancock on Feb. 4.
Wednesday’s result could provide momentum for a challenging weekend ahead. Pierce travels to Moorpark on Friday, while Cuesta visits Santa Barbara.
